Happy Valentine's Day! And save those jars!
Happy Valentine’s Day! I’m happy to announce that at our annual Brian-and-Alison awards ceremony (affectionately dubbed "the Logue-ees”) Brian swept up the coveted Husband of the Year Award AGAIN for the eighth year in a row. Tremendous!! Let’s hear it for the boy!
Ok, sure, maybe they aren't gorgeous just yet. But awhile back I started saving my glass jars and realized I could use them as vases, or candleholders (or potpourri holders....you get the picture). Why pay for something I can re-purpose for free? And the best part is it's EASY....just keep doing what you're doing (i.e. eating your stuff), remove the label once the jar is empty, clean the jar, and voila!! If the jar label is being stubborn, spray a little distilled vinegar on the label and let it sit for 10-15 minutes....it will come right off.
See that shapely jar on the left, below? A full-bodied, medium Pace Picante salsa (used in this recipe) once called that jar "home." I think the jar on the right used to hold peperoncinis.
Switching gears to the flowers....Trim your buds (I like to remove the leaves as well). Remember, don't get crazy here....you can always trim more off, but you cannot add more stem back. It just doesn't work that way.....{shakes head}
I like to really pack my flowers in, so this entire dozen of white roses ended up in one jar. I know what you're thinking....I should give them some space so they can "breathe" or something like that. Well....I hate to say this....{if you have small children in the room, cover their ears}...but, these flowers are going to die. Yep....they are pretty much going to kick the bucket regardless, so rather than pamper my roses, I opt to make them beautiful. After all....they're here to pamper ME. :)
I also want to take a moment to publicly thank my amazing husband for being the sweetest, kindest, smartest, and most-awesome-in-every-way-with-rock-star-good-looks husband ever. I wouldn't trade our relationship for anything in the world. He's my best friend, my soul mate, and STILL to this day the funniest person I know. I love you, Bri!
Happy Valentine's Day, y'all!!
PS. I'm linking up here:
Something I told Brian early on in our relationship is that I'm not a flowers kinda gal ("Get me something I can eat instead."). And the boy does listen. Needless to say, fresh flowers don't show up unannounced in our home very often.
But every once in awhile, the moon turns into cheese and this girl needs some flowers...and lucky for me, Brian has never disappointed in those circumstances. He recently showed up with a dozen white roses (which was JUST what the doctor ordered), so I thought I'd take this opportunity to share my favorite flower vases with you, below. Aren't they pretty?
